The Ugandan flag and that of the East African Community will fly at half-mast in the country and Ugandan Embassies and consular offices abroad starting tomorrow Saturday 13th June 2020 until burial, as a sign of honor and mourning of the late Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza who passed on Monday this week.

Nkurunziza allegedly succumbed to cardiac arrest at a hospital in Bujumbura on 8th June 2020.

In his letter to the people of Burundi, President Yoweri Museveni conveyed condolences to the family of the late Nkurunzinza, the Government, the people of Burundi and the entire East African region for what he termed as a shocking loss.

President Museveni revealed that the later was a true friend of Uganda and a champion of East African integration.
“His country and the region will miss his talents and the invaluable contribution he was well positioned to make towards the consolidation of peace and stability in Burundi and in the region following his departure from office in a few months’ time” Museveni writes.

The Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has also announced that the country’s flag will also fly at half-mast both in Kenya and different embassies abroad.
